Bookmarking your Favorite Spots and use them for Routing

A common use case is for routing apps is to save your favorite spots, like biker cafes, viewpoints, roadside stops, etc. to have them handy if you want to include them in your route. The Kurviger app allows you to store these points as bookmarks to have them handy wherever you go.

:!: Thanks for visiting Kurviger. This page might contain information about an outdated version of the Kurviger App (V2) and Kurviger Pro (V1). The latest version is Kurviger (V3), which can be found here.

The easiest way to create a bookmark is by long pressing on the map where you want to create a bookmark, select More, select Bookmark, and enter a matching name.

Including a bookmark in a route is very easy, just long press on the bookmark and an option will pop-up, just press on the right option for you, like Set end to route to the bookmark. Note: if you hit the bookmark the heading of the menu changes from coordinates to the name of the bookmark (see the screenshot).

Tip: If you struggle to hit the bookmark, you can try to tap the bookmark first. This will open a pop-up bubble. You can long press the pop-up bubble to include the bookmark in your route.

If you go to the Menu, select Bookmarks, and press on Manage. This will open a window where you can edit and delete your bookmarks. There is also an option to show or hide bookmarks on the map.

Kurviger allows you to import any GPX file with waypoints to be used as bookmarks. Common examples of bookmarks that users would like to import are their own collection from for example Basecamp, passes from Passknacker or Alpenrouten, or speed cameras (please note that showing speed cameras might not be legal in your country, please double check, before using them).

If you go to the Menu, select Bookmarks and select Import, select the file you want to import. If you have any bookmarks in the app yet, the app will ask you if you want to add the bookmarks to your existing ones, or if you want to override your current bookmarks. It might be worthwhile to backup your current bookmarks before adding new ones, in case you would like to go back to the old state.

It is important to note, that if you import huge amounts of POIs, the map might feel a bit slow on high zoom-levels, you can choose to not show the bookmarks if not need them and the map behaves normal. Also when importing large amounts of bookmarks, you should be aware, that it can be complicated to manage them. Therefore, we recommend to only import bigger amounts of POIs, if it wouldn't be easier to import them as route overlay (Menu, Routing, Import, these POIs can be easily deleted and don't mix with your other bookmarks).

It is easy to export your bookmarks as GPX file. This allows you to use your bookmarks in the Kurviger Website, in external systems or to back them up. Go to the Menu, Bookmarks, Export.

BTW: We recommend to backup the Bookmarks and your routes from time to time to not lose any planned routes or stored bookmarks.

If you know a good place for a bookmark that could be interesting for other motorcyclists as well, please have a look here on how to let us know.
